Malawi police nab private parts sellers
Police in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe have arrested four suspects alleged to have been offering human male private parts for sale.
Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Ramsy Mushane confirmed this on Sunday of the arrest Sebita Mwale, Erick Mwandira, Lufeyo Mphimbi and Samalani Jabu.
Mushane said Mwale and Mwandira were arrested on Friday at Kaunda Filling Station along the Lilongwe-Mchinji Road, following a tip-off from the public that the two were offering male human private parts for sale at a K8 million (about $20 000).
“During the interrogations the two suspects revealed to have sourced the parts from Kamuzu Central Hospital through the mortuary supervisor Lufeyo Mphimbi and mortuary attendant Samalani. They agreed that upon accomplishment of the deal, they would share the amount equally,” said Mushane.
Mushane said it was discovered that the private parts were cut off from a dead body at KCH mortuary.
“The parts were cut off from one of the unknown male in the mortuary and police were led to where the dead body was lying. We discovered that the body really had private parts cut off,” he said.
Both Mwale, 27, who comes from Chipoza Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Santhe in Kasungu and Mwandira, 34, Mwazisi Village, Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi, will answer the charge of being in possession of human body tissue contrary to Section 16 (A) CAP: 34:05 of Anatomy Act.
Mphimbi, 54, from Chipazi Village, T/A Msakambewa, Dowa and Jabu, 58, Msimbi Village, T/A Masula, Lilongwe will answer the charge of supplying human body tissue contrary to Section 16 (B) CAP: 34:05 of Anatomy Act.
The suspects are expected to appear before Lilongwe magistrate court soon.
